Prospected Budget for One-Day Professional Development Training For Dragon Dictate Naturally Speaking

 

Purpose:         To introduce the special education department to the basic functions of Dragon Dictate Naturally Speaking speech recognition software.

 

Setting:           This in-service would take place in the Disability Network computer lab in Flint, where all of the adaptive software has already been installed on the computers.

 

Participants:   All special education personal would participate in this in-service.

Trainer Costs                      Since I will be conducting this training, there will be no charge for the trainer.  However, there is a $75.00 fee for renting the Disability Network computer lab for the day.

 

Substitute Teacher Costs    This training will be conducted during one of the professional development days at the beginning of the year, before the students are scheduled to return to school.  This eliminates the need to pay for a substitute teacher.

 

Transportation -                     All twenty members of the Flint Southwestern Academy special education department, who are attending this staff development session, will be given $5.00 to cover the cost of gasoline to and from the Disability Network.

 

Lodging -                                The computer lab is located in Flint.  Therefore, no lodging is required.

 

Food -                                      All participants will be given $7.00 with which to purchase lunch at a restaurant of their choice.

 

Materials -                             $10.00 is required to cover the cost of copying the handouts.

 

Other -                                    There are no other foreseen costs for this session.

  1. I called the disability network to find out the cost of renting the adaptive computer lab.  I was told that the lab was not rented by the hour and that the cost is $75.00 per day. Disability Network: (810) 742 – 1800

I spoke with my building principal, David Ginsberg on 2/25/04 regarding the technology budget.  He said that each building was allotted a staff development budget based upon student enrollment numbers.  He also said that this year, Flint Southwestern Academy was given $16,000 for professional development purposes, $4,000 of which has been set aside for technology staff development.
